Koh Tao Diving

Helloooo, sorry it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, time’s kind of run away from me recently!! I’ll be home in a couple of weeks which is wild, but I wanted to get a few of these written up before then - partly so you know what I’ve been up to, and partly so I can look back on them later.

After spending some time down south with Bill, I went back to Koh Tao to finally do my Open Water dive certification. I’d been wanting to do it for a while and Koh Tao is one of the cheapest places in the world to do it so made sense to go back there.

The course takes around three days, and once you’ve passed, you can dive anywhere in the world up to 18 metres, for life. It’s a mix of theory, shallow water skills, and then four proper open water dives. The first dive was a bit surreal and it honestly feels like you are on another planet. We saw loads of different fish!! There was also a lot of stuff I would’ve completely missed if the instructor hadn’t pointed it out. The visibility was great and the water was super warm, just really ideal conditions overall.

The day after the course finished, I did a couple of fun dives, basically just diving for the sake of it, without having to complete any skills. It was really cool being able to enjoy it all without thinking about passing the course.

After my final day of diving, I packed up my stuff, had dinner and started making my way into Malaysia which ended up being a bit of a mission. It was an overnight ferry and four separate minivans, taking about 22 hours in total. Eventually made it to Penang in one piece, just very ready to sleep! Xoxo

Hi Maddy lovely to read your update. Congratulations on your diving certificate - I don’t think I could do that!! Can’t believe you’ll be home soon. Take care x
